The 2023 Homes & Acreage Boneo Summer Dressage Championships took place at Boneo Park over the weekend. Although this year’s event was not a CDI, there was a full suite of EA-level classes on offer from young horses through to Big Tour.

Jessica Dertell and Syriana were named Big Tour Champions, winning both the Grand Prix and Special with scores of 68.316% and 70.16% respectively. Kerry Mack and Mayfield Limelight were named the Reserve Champions.

Jessica also won the Inter B class, scoring 70.811% with Zanzibar, while Brooke Mance and Callum Park Freya took out the Inter II class.

The Small Tour Championship went to Denise Rogan riding Greco, with the pair winning the Prix St Georges on 66.030% and placing third in the Inter I behind winners Georgia Haythorpe and La Joy Eden (68.235%); Mary Hanna and new horse Impress Taonga were second in the Inter I. The overall Reserve Champion sash went to Jane Crantock riding La Vie, who finished second in the PSG and fourth in the Inter I.

Mary Hanna also rode CJP Sir Dragonfire II for owners Christopher Ardron and Jason York in the Advanced classes, winning both tests with impressive scores of 72.105% and 74.932%; they were named Advanced Champions. Reserve Champion went to Charlie Welsh riding the stunning Dante Quando OLD. The Pony Advanced Championship went to Clair Arnold riding Fawks Crocodile Rock.

David Boyle and Bachelor were named the Medium Champions, with the Reserve title going to Olivia Gillespie riding Amsterdam. The Pony Medium Champion was Rockfields Cioccolata, ridden by Jodie Barton, and the Pony Medium Reserve Champion was Sorrella Sunrise, ridden by Dallas Mills.

The Elementary Championship went to Rachel Wessel riding Bellagio 11, while the Reserve Champion sash went to Rebecca Holmes riding Lilibet WP. Black Charming WE, ridden by Georgia Creais, was named Pony Elementary Champion; the Reserve Pony Champion went to Simply Magisch and Melanie Clark.

The Novice Champion was Selina Brendish riding Van Eyk Flume, with Tia Rose Mckenzie riding TS Lady Ashberry named the Reserve. Natasha Moody and Pennant Fire Cracker were the Pony Novice Champions, with Toni Webb and Salient Park Once Again the Reserves. In the off-the-track (OTT) division, Mariah Kaminski and Linton Street were sashed Novice Champions, ahead of Reserves Jessica Morrison and Afterlife.

Olympic judge Susie Hoevenaars judged the OTT classes and spoke so highly of the Thoroughbreds, saying how willing and forward they were, and what a delight it was to judge them.

The Preliminary Champion was Tia Rose Mckenzie riding TS Lady Ashberry, and the Reserve Champion was Sandra Jean Binder riding Regal Bentonello. The OTT Preliminary Championship title went to Jenny Bennett and Awakino, with Amanda Ross riding Romeo F named the Reserve.

Toni Webb and Salient Park Once Again continued their success to add the Pony Preliminary Championship to their haul, with the Reserve Champion title going to Stephanie Halligan riding Bonsai New Lace.

Para riders were also out competing over the weekend. Dianne Barnes was named the Para Grade IV Champion riding Sorena, while Maddison Cooke claimed the Para Grade II Championship riding Byalee Magic II.

The ‘Cil Dara Cosmic’ Award, in honour of Jodie and Di Barnes’ magnificent World Championship mare who sadly passed away last year, was presented to the combination with the highest percentage gained in the Para Equestrian Grand Prix Test B. Maddison Cooke and Byalee Magic II were thrilled to take home the accolade.

Dressage & Jumping with the Stars is just two months away, and therefore young horses were also putting their best hoof forward to gain competition experience.

Tegan Huitson and Secret Of Javion won the four-year-old young horse class, while Toni Webb won the four-year-old pony class with Freeman’s Lodge Gigabyte.

Jessica Dertell continued her successful weekend, this time winning the five-year-old young horse class with Volbeat; Javais Ham and Melliodora Gabrielle won the pony class.

Finally, the six-year-old young horse class went to Emma Hayward and Fleur De Cherie.

Congratulations to all competitors, and as always well done to Fiona Selby and the Boneo Park team on a fabulous event!
