2025 WBFSH Top 100 Dressage Sire Rankings

The 2025 WBFSH Top 100 Dressage Sire Rankings celebrate the stallions shaping international sport horse breeding. KWPN stallion Johnson TN once again leads the list for the fourth year running.

The World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) is the independent and international umbrella organisation of studbooks. As the only international federation of studbooks for sport horses in the world, they are the major connection between sport horse breeding and equestrian sports across the globe and work closely with the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI).

The WBFSH Sire Rankings celebrate the stallions whose genetic influence drives international sport and the breeders who make their success possible. The 2025 results demonstrate the continued dominance of established European bloodlines — yet also the growing global spread of their influence through international partnerships and progressive breeding programmes.

“Each year, these rankings illustrate how interconnected the international breeding landscape has become,” said the WBFSH President. “The names may be familiar, but their success stories span continents — the result of dedicated breeders, riders, and studbooks working together to produce the next generation of champions.”

KWPN stallion Johnson TN retains #1 ranking

KWPN stallion Johnson TN has retained his number one ranking for the fourth year in a row, finishing over 9,000 points ahead of the late superstar Totilas — who rose from fourth in 2024. Quaterback remains in the top five, as does Blue Hors Zack. Apache has held steady in sixth, as did Bordeaux 28 in ninth.

Recently retired Grand Prix star Dante Weltino, Vitalis, and the late Zonik N.O.P. all made big leaps into the top ten – the latter no doubt aided by the incredible success of his star son, Zonik Plus.

How are points allocation?

The point allocations for the WBFSH ranking work the same as for the well-known FEI Rider Rankings. But unlike the FEI Rider Ranking, which is dynamic, the WBFSH rankings run on a 12-month fixed cycle, with points restarting at zero when the new ranking cycle begins on 1 October every year. For the stallion rankings, the points of each progeny in the final WBFSH Breeder Ranking are added to give the sire his total number of points and rank.
