Eventing star Andrew Hoy finished on his dressage score at the 2018 World Equestrian Games!
Andrew Hoy never ceases to deliver! On the relatively inexperienced Vassily de Lassos, Andrew managed a near foot-perfect performance to finish on his dressage score – a mere 2.5 penalties off the bronze medal position. Vassily de Lassos, an impressive chestnut nine-year-old Anglo Arab, will still only be 11 years of age come Tokyo…so watch this space!

The Aussie eventing team, compromising of Chris Burton, Shane Rose, Andrew Hoy and Emma McNab have secured a place at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by finishing in sixth place at the 2018 World Equestrian Games. What a fantastic effort from our Aussie eventers!
Another notable achievement for Aussies in the eventing scene is the success of UK-based Australian rider Chris Burton, who was crowned the winner of the Event Rider Masterclass series, and was awarded £30,000 for his fantastic efforts.

Hazel Shannon and WillingaPark Clifford have also made history, with the pair being the first-ever combination to win the Australian International CCI4* Three Day Event twice. Hazel and WillingaPark Clifford won in 2016 and again this year.
The Adelaide International horse trials was created in 1997, and was relabelled as ‘The Australian international 3 Day Event’ or Aus3de in 2007. The event was originally labeled as a three star event, however was upgraded to a four star rating in 2002. This anticipated event is now the only four star event in the southern hemisphere, and is attended by some of the top riders this sport has to offer.

Driving Champion Boyd Exell wins gold at the 2018 World Equestrian Games!
Australian driver Boyd Exell proved he remains in a league of his own at WEG by securing a third successive individual gold medal. First in the dressage, third in the marathon stage (despite driving with broken brakes) and second in the closing cone phase, Boyd led overall throughout and finished with a total score of 154.14, almost 10 points clear of the silver medalist.
To make the achievement even more amazing, the Australian maestro’s season was heavily disrupted by injury after he broke his ankle jumping off a moving carriage in July. It was still sore enough to have flared up and required icing after Boyd attempted to walk the WEG marathon course. What a champion and an amazing ambassador for Australia on the international equestrian stage!

Boyd has been recognised throughout the equestrian world as a top competitor and horseman. He has received numerous awards for his efforts, including awards from the Ariat International Athlete of the Year awards as well as receiving the Order of Australia Medal in recognition of his services to equestrian sport, in particular four-in-hand carriage driving in 2014.
Another highlight was the success of Australia’s dressage riders, particularly their efforts on the world stage at this year’s World Equestrian Games of Tryon, competing against some truly fierce competition and still producing some marvellous results.
The Aussie dressage team also posted some terrific scores at the 2018 World Equestrian Games, with Kristy Oatley and Du Soleil scoring an impressive 74.605% in the Grand Prix Special!

Kristy was ranked 27th after the Grand Prix, with the combination just making the cut for the special (the top 30 qualified) before achieving a personal best score to finish 12th in the Special. This meant that the pair also qualified for the freestyle Final amongst the top 15 combinations; however, this event was canceled due to weather concerns associated with Hurricane Florence.
Equestrian Life is passionate about supporting and helping grow out wonderful sport and wish to congratulate all the Aussie riders out there who train and work so hard to represent themselves and Australia. We look forward to what the future brings and will be in support of you along the way! Go Aussies!
