50th edition of Boekelo CCIO4*-L cancelled

By Equestrian Life

The 50th anniversary edition of Military Boekelo CCIO4*-L, originally planned for 1 to 4 October 2020, has been shifted to 2021 due to restrictions associated with the global COVID-19 pandemic.

“The board has made this decision after intensive consultation with representatives from the national and international equestrian sports world, its employees, founders and sponsors. The possibility to continue the Military, possibly without an audience, has been considered until the last moment. The 4-star level at which Military Boekelo is run, is of an international and Olympic level and requires a top sports facility and an infrastructure that cannot be compromised. Without the public and the largely lack of financial support, this is impossible to achieve. Moreover, the organization and its partners believe that it is in line with their own responsibility to put the health of society first in these times. The anniversary edition will now take place from October 7-11, 2021,” said the organising committee in a press release.

Australian riders have often competed with success at Boekelo. Last year, the Aussie team were second in the Nations Cup CCIO4*-L event with Chris Burton also finishing second individually behind Great Britain’s Laura Collett.
