Wallaby Hill’s cross country course is a feast for the eyes; its creative, colourful and artistically crafted jumps are beautifully located on a lawn like course, set against a background of native bushland – it’s little wonder that this event and venue is a firm favourite for many Australian eventers! On Saturday at Wallaby Hill, the performances and indeed scoreboard were as impressive as the location; an exciting sign for Tokyo 2021 and beyond.
Riding the eight-year old Holsteiner mare Easy Turn, Shane Rose held onto the lead in the Gow-Gates Group CCI4*-L class, adding just 1.6 time penalties to his dressage score to finish the day on 26.60 penalties. Stuart Tinney is just 0.9 penalties behind in second place with Celebration, and rose to third place with Leporis on 29.0. It was a faultless display from Stuart Tinney; his rounds were 2 of just 3 in the class that were clear of time penalties.

Emma Mason rose from sixth after the dressage to 4th place riding Warrego Marco Polo, finishing her round just one second over the optimum time on 32.80 penalties. Heath Ryan remains in fifth place with Bronze Boy on 34.70 penalties after incurring 4.8 time penalties, while Megan Jones and Kirby Park Impress slipped to sixth place after a clear round with 6.8 time penalties.
With less than 1 rail separating the top 3 places after cross country day, the showjumping phase will be a thrilling conclusion to an extremely high calibre competition!
It a great day at the office for Shane Rose; he is also leading the Wallaby Hill CCI4*-S class with 15 year old Virgil on 27.40 penalties, ahead of Shenae Lowings and Bold Venture in second, and Katie Taliana and Trevalgar II in third. Dressage leaders Christine Bates and Adelaide Hill withdrew from the event prior to the cross country phase.
In the OTTO Sport CCI3*-L, Andrew Barnett and Go Tosca held onto their lead, adding 1.2 time penalties to their outstanding dressage score to head into the show jumping phase on 26.10 penalties. Andrew has 2 rails in hand over second placed Shane Rose and Stakkino on 34.80 penalties, with Gemma Tinney in third place on 35.60 penalties riding Be My Daisy. Jane Wilcox sits in fourth and fifth position with Quantico and Miss Pippa respectively.

The mother/daughter duo of Carlene and Olivia Barton are having a great time in the Gubbins Pulbrook Mitre 10 CCI3*-S, finishing the day in first and second place riding Henrik APH and APH Witchcraft respectively. Carlene and Henrik APH, on 31.80 have less than a rail in hand over Olivia and APH Witchcraft as they head into the final day, while Andrew Cooper is not far behind in third and fourth place on Manhattan and Hey Arnold.

Andrew Cooper leads the Pryde’s Easifeed CCI2*-L class, with an impressive field of 26 competitors progressing to the final day of competition. Riding Pepper Jack, he finished the day on 28.00 penalties, just 0.4 ahead of Emma Bishop and CP Figaro on 28.40. Portia Wilson and AH Royal Seanna hold third place with 29.80 penalties ahead of Nicky Lyle and Winter Hill in fourth and Blair Richardson and Rosthwaite Jonny English in fifth. Willa Mitchell holds first and second place in the IRT CCIJ2*-L with Wenlock Aquifer and Taurus respectively.

The Supporting Assistance Dogs CCN1*-L class attracted the most entries in the entire competition; New Zealand’s Andy Daines leads the field of 49 starters with Incline Park Remembrance on an outstanding score of 21.70 penalties. Christine Bates holds second and fourth place on Big Time and Schatzi respectively, with Matilda McCarroll and Valenthyme third after the cross country phase. Mia Gigliotti and Positano lead the Saddleworld Bowral CCNJ1*-L ahead of Alexander Seppelt and Fairview Metallica.
