Exciting performances at Horses & Dreams meets Japan

Horses & Dreams meets Japan – Sports Edition has concluded over the weekend at Hof Kasselmann in Hagen, with the non-spectator event attracting many of Europe’s top riders – resulting in many exciting performances with Tokyo on the horizon.

A personal best from Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, wins to Charlotte Dujardin, as well as some Aussie success stories, were just some of the exciting results to emerge from the weekend’s competition.

Dressage

On Friday, the CDI4* Grand Prix (Qualification for the Special) took place, with Germany’s Jessica von Bredow-Werndl taking first place aboard TSF Dalera BB. The pair scored a personal best 81.625%, proving they are in career best form heading into Tokyo Olympic selection. The judges awarded multiple 10’s for the Piaffe-Passage tour!

Hot on their heels were Charlotte Dujardin and Mount St John Freestyle on 81.457%; Charlotte won the previous day’s Grand Prix with Gio. In third was Isabell Werth and DSP Quantaz on 78.630%.

In the Inter I, it was another win to Denmark’s Nanna Skodborg Merrald riding Blue Hors Farrell; the pair scored 74.824%. In second place was Patrik Kittel and Bergsjoholms Valbonne on 73.971%, while David Taylor and Don Henry 10 were third on 71.588%.

Young Australian rider Tayla Demet enjoyed further success, again finishing fourth and scoring 70.882% with the mare Zaubermaus. Tayla also enjoyed a score over 70% in the Prix St Georges earlier at the event.

“A week of many firsts!!” said Tayla via social media. “Zaubermaus started in her first CDI, finished her first ever Inter I and together we rode at Horses & Dreams for the first time!

“It was totally surreal to be a part of a competition full of the best riders in the world and have the opportunity to watch such a high level of competition!

“I couldn’t be happier to finish 4th in both the PSG and Inter I with both scores over 70%! A really exciting start! So proud of my beautiful Zaubermaus.”

Saturday saw the Nürnberger Burg-Pokal Cup Final take place. German Helen Langehanenberg took first and second place, although the results were reversed from the qualification event; in the Final, she won aboard Schöne Scarlett on 76.244%, with Straight Horse Ascenzione in second on 75.951%. Third went to Sönke Rothenberger and Fendi 48 on 74.146%.

In the evening under floodlights out on the jumping arena, the Grand Prix Special with Music (which ran as per the Tokyo Olympics programme) and the Grand Prix Freestyle took place. In the Special, it was a reverse of the qualification test, with Charlotte Dujardin and Mount St John Freestyle taking the win on 82.872%. Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and TSF Dalera BB were second on 82.553%. Third again went to Isabell Werth and DSP Quantaz on a score of 80.340%.

In the Freestyle, it was again Charlotte Dujardin – this time riding the chestnut pocket rocket Gio – who won, with a score of 84.040%. Second went to Frederic Wandres and Duke of Britain on 82.855%, while Nanna Skodborg Merrald was third on Blue Hors Zack with a score of 82.025%.

Another CDI4* Grand Prix, held on the final day of competition, saw Nanna Skodborg Merrald conclude a very successful event, winning aboard Atterupgaards Orthilia on 74.478%.

Jumping

In the jumping arena, Friday’s CSI2* 1.35m went to Felix Haßmann and SL Brazonado, while the CSI2* 1.45m went to Marco Kutscher and Charco 2. Australia’s Hilary Scott finished 21st (out of 90) in the latter riding Oaks Milky Way; the pair jumped clear but 1 time penalty kept them out of the jump off.

On the Saturday, Hilary finished an impressive 7th in the CSI2* 1.40/1.45m class, producing a double clear with Qualoma Z. The 71-horse class was won by Alexa Stais and Cera.

On Sunday, the CSI2* 1.45m Grand Prix class went to Maurice Tebbel and Don Diarado. Hilary Scott finished 25th on Oaks Milky Way after having two rails down.
