Could there be another CCI5* in the UK this year after all?
By Equestrian Life
It has been reported that Britain may still host a CCI5* in 2021, despite the cancellations of both Badminton and Burghley Horse Trials due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement earlier this week, British Eventing (BE) said they were exploring all options.
“Following the very disappointing news that Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials will not be running this year, BE are working closely with the FEI and other stakeholders to consider all other options for hosting a CCI5* class in the UK as a one-off event this year.
“We are exploring all available possibilities and are committed to doing all that we can to see the highest level of the sport being hosted in Great Britain this year,” a BE spokesperson said.
While no information has been released to date about where or when this CCI5* might take place, it is no doubt a very big undertaking that would require substantial financial outlay from an organiser. In the US, crowdfunding allowed the CCI5* Kentucky 3DE to go ahead in April – so anything is possible.
Fingers crossed for a positive announcement soon!
