Danish dressage rider Cathrine Dufour has announced her long-time equine partner, Atterupgaards Cassidy, will farewell his competition career in a special ceremony at the FEI World Championships in August.

The widely loved combination has been together since 2010 when the Dufour family purchased the Danish warmblood gelding who is now 19 years old.

Together, Cathrine and Cassidy have created an incredible career and legacy, being named the Danish Grand Prix Champion five times.

In other significant events, they also attended the Rio Olympics in 2016, as well the 2017 European Championships winning team silver and earning double individual bronze medals.

Cathrine and Cassidy’s final competition together was at the CDI in Herning in 2021 in which they won the short Grand Prix.

Cassidy’s public farewell to his competition career will take place at the 2022 World Championships after the Grand Prix Special medal ceremony.

Speaking with Eurodressage, Cathrine said, “It’s going to be very emotional for me, and I cannot quite understand that it will be my last ride with Cassidy in front of an enthusiastic audience – which he loves. I hope he gets the farewell he very much deserves.”
