William Matthew debuts Mysterious Star at Grand Prix

By Equestrian Life

Australian dressage rider William Matthew has ridden his first Grand Prix test with nine-year-old Mysterious Star (Métall x Fürst Heinrich), scoring 69.567% to place equal third.

The pair competed in the German national level Grand Prix class (Kl. S***) at the Kerkener Dressur Event.

Last month, William and Mysterious Star won an Inter II test at Würselen; William was excited about the horse’s future and said the gelding is one of the best he’s had. Owned by Stephanie Göller, Mysterious Star has been in training with William since he was a five-year-old.

Originally from Perth, William travelled to Europe at age 17 for an equestrian gap year. Working with fellow Aussies Hayley Beresford and Warwick McLean among others, William has been working for German Olympian Isabell Werth since the end of 2019. Gaining international level Grand Prix experience with the grey Belantis, he now has two rides that are new to Big Tour level in Mysterious Star and Madeline Winter-Schulze’s nine-year-old Freischutz.

You can read more about William in the December 2021 issue of Equestrian Life here.
