Boyd Exell claims victory at CHIO Aachen
Australian driving sensation Boyd Exell has again won the combined driving competition, the ‘Prize of Family Richard Talbot’, at CHIO Aachen!
The competition culminated on Sunday with the Obstacle Driving competition – the ‘Prize of Event Rent GmbH’ – where Boyd and his team were 13th, accumulating 6.97 penalties after an uncharacteristic mistake. The Netherlands’ Ijsbrand Chardon won the class, finishing without penalty in the first round and going clear again in the quickest time of the second round to finish at the top of the field.
However, such was Boyd’s lead after consistent dressage and marathon phases on Thursday and Saturday, he and his team – which today included – Celviro, Checkmate, Hero and Ivor – could not be beaten in the overall rankings. They finished on an overall score of 152.35. Ijsbrand Chardon was a close second overall with 154.63, with Germany’s Mareike Hard third on 163.26.
Fellow Aussie Tor van den Berge also competed in the Obstacle Driving competition, finishing 19th on 11.47 penalties for 16th in the overall individual rankings.
The Australian Nations Cup team, comprised of Boyd and Tor, finished fourth from eight teams overall – a fabulous performance!
