Australian Jumping Championships kick off at SIEC

The 2023 Australian Jumping Championships began Tuesday, with the first of six days of competition bringing plenty of action to Sydney International Equestrian Centre.

The first class in ring one was the Orangeville Performance Horses Australian Young Rider Championship – Round 1 (Art. 239), and it was won by Hayden Parker and Tulara Spangenberg.

Next, the Australian Senior Championship – Round 1 (Art. 239, where faults are penalised as seconds added to time) got underway, with 19 of Australia’s top riders hoping to get their Australian title quest off to a flying start. Jumping clear, Stuart Jenkins and Fairview Alicana finished more than 2 seconds ahead once time penalties for rails were added into the equation, with Sam Overton and Oaks Cassanova second and Amber Fuller third riding Nopal van Tallaert in third.

The final class on the main arena on Tuesday was the Sydney Jumping Association Ruby Series – Round 1 Art. (238 2.2), and it was Clem Smith who claimed the win riding Quantico 12 as the fastest of three clears in the jump off.

In arena two, the Oaks Sport Horses Emerald Series Young Horse Section – Round 1 (Art. 238 2.1, For horses Under 8 Years of Age) went to Glenara Leonardo Z for Samantha Dernee; the Pattis Hire Emerald Series Open Section – Round 1 (Art. 238 2.1) went to Cody Tinckell and Pier Gynt Nautillus F; the Thoroughbred Sport Horse Association TSHA Series – Round 1 (Art. 238 2.2) went to Lori James and Thoroughbred Restauranter SHP; and the Global Entries Online Amateur Series – Round 1 (Art. 238 2.2) was won by Jacqui Kennett and Oaks Kenya.
