The 77th edition of the MARS Badminton Horse Trials will deliver a significant financial boost for competitors, with the winner set to receive £125,000. The increase reinforces Badminton’s status as the pinnacle of five-star eventing and the most sought-after title in the sport.
In line with its global reputation, the new prize structure represents the largest first prize and overall prize fund in eventing. A total of £451,500 will be shared among the top 20 finishers, reflecting the event’s continued commitment to rewarding elite performance at the highest level.
“This is fantastic news,” said defending champion Ros Canter. “Badminton is the horse trials that everyone in the world has heard of and is the one we all desperately want to win. I can’t wait to come back and try again.”

Badminton Director Jane Tuckwell said the enhanced prize money adds further excitement to an already world-class competition. “We are delighted to have been able to raise the prize-money levels for what promises to be another excellent and thrilling competition,” she commented. “Last year was of such a high standard so we are very much looking forward to welcoming everyone back for what promises to be another great weekend of sport. Perhaps we will even see the future world champion in action!”
The week will also shine a spotlight on the grassroots level of the sport. The LeMieux Grassroots Championships for British Eventing 100 and 90 horses will be held on Wednesday, May 6, with increased prize money on offer in both sections, underlining Badminton’s support of eventing from grassroots to elite level.
