Britain’s Brash wins London thriller
By Louise Parkes
Great Britain’s Scott Brash and Hello Jefferson produced a spectacular turn of speed to win Sunday’s eighth leg of the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ 2022/2023 Western European League in London (GBR), pinning Germany’s Daniel Deusser and Killer Queen VDM into runner-up spot.
Brash threw down a super-fast time of 39.67 seconds when third to go in the seven-horse jump-off, and the 2012 Olympic team gold medallist couldn’t be caught despite a superb effort from Deusser who was only 0.06 seconds off the pace.
Third place went to rising British star 22-year-old Jodie Hall McAteer whose last-to-go effort with Salt ’n Peppa had the crowd on the edges of their seats before the pair crossed the line in 40.14.
The Netherlands’ Maikel van der Vleuten (Elwikke) lined up in fourth ahead of reigning world champion Henrik von Eckermann from Sweden (Dzara Dorchival) in fifth place, Ireland’s Denis Lynch (Cornets Iberio) in sixth and Austria’s Max Kuhner (Elektric Blue P) in seventh spot.
Von Eckermann has moved into pole position on the Western European League table ahead of the next round of the 14-leg series which will take place in Mechelen (BEL) on 30 December.
