Emma Ireland claims 2024 Tom Quilty Gold Cup

Eighteen-year-old Emma Ireland and Razorback Kelly’s Fire have claimed the 2024 Tom Quilty Gold Cup, a prestigious 160km endurance race run since 1966.

Eighteen-year-old Emma Ireland and Razorback Kelly’s Fire have claimed the 2024 Tom Quilty Gold Cup, a prestigious 160km endurance race run since 1966.

Rotating between states following a decision in 1986, this year the Tom Quilty was held at picturesque Wirrina Cove in South Australia.

Emma Ireland (Cole) and seven-year-old stallion Razorback Kelly’s Fire, owned by Matthew Paul Hampden, were part of the Middleweight division and claimed the overall honours in a time of 11:05:06.

Razorback Kelly’s Fire also won the Best Conditioned award.

Naomi McGaffin and Kelkette Park Faris, also Middleweights, were the runners-up in a time of 11:19:15.

The Heavyweight division went to Chris Geddes on Kurrajong Revolution in a time of 13:50:50; the Lightweight Division went to Chloe Hayden and Castlebar Taylor in a time of 11:59:57; and the Junior division went to Poppy Kettlewell and Oso Enigma with a time of 12:13:26.

NSWERA won the team division ahead of TEERA Turbos.

Of 131 entrants at this year’s event, 78 finished the course for a 59.54% completion rate.
