Hazel Shannon and WillingaPark Clifford have emerged victorious in the Oz Shotz CCI4*-S class at Tamworth International Eventing, finishing on their impressive dressage score of just 28.6 penalties.
The Tokyo hopefuls are no strangers to success in Tamworth, this being their sixth win at 4* level in Tamworth. This year they were outstanding in all three phases, winning the event with a commanding lead of 5.4 penalties. Jessica Rae took both second and third places with Rascal on 34.0 penalties and Fifth Avenue on 36.6 penalties, while Heath Ryan and Wimborne Constable claimed fourth place on 48.1. Shane Rose and Easy Turn, class leaders after the dressage and show jumping phases, incurred 20 jumping penalties and time penalties during the cross country phase to finish in 10th place overall.
Entry numbers were strong across the FEI levels at Tamworth, with this being the first event on the NSW eventing calendar for 2020. Katie Taliana and Trevalgar II led from start to finish to win the Equissage CCI3*-S class from a field of 27 starters, with Andrew Barnett finishing second aboard Go Tosca and Emma Mason in third on Warrego Marco Polo. Previous winners at 4* level in Tamworth, Katie and her long term, experienced partner were enjoying a return to the sport after Katie’s maternity leave in 2019.
William Baxter and Kdale Mr Collins finished first in the large CCI2*-S class of 32 entrants, ahead of Lesley Brodbeck and Lexington Furst Affair in second place and Katrina Silk and Dunrostan in third.
One of only three events in New South Wales offering all levels from 45cm through to CCI4*-S, it was a busy weekend at AELEC – with riders of all ages and levels enjoying perfect conditions and excellent ground conditions following recent rain.
