Hendra virus confirmed in New South Wales horse
Officials in NSW are reporting the first case of Hendra virus in Australia this year.
It has been reported that a 17-year-old unvaccinated thoroughbred on a property south of Murwillumbah was found by the owner to be depressed and having difficulty breathing last Friday. A vet took sample to test for Hendra, however the horse sadly deteriorated and was euthanised over the weekend.
No other animals in the property have shown signs of ill health, however the property has been quarantined. Hendra virus infection is notifiable in NSW under the NSW Biosecurity Act.
