Described by Chris Burton as one of the best horses he’s ever ridden, and “an outstanding athlete who finds everything so easy”, Caliber Royale is a truly impressive Holstein stallion who is commanding global attention. Bred in Germany and now competing with Chris Burton in England, he is fast becoming a stallion of choice for Australian performance horse breeders.
A perfect example of the modern sporthorse, Caliber Royale has a high percentage of thoroughbred blood (70%), and oozes quality; a stylish type with a scopey, athletic jump, expressive paces and a ground covering gallop. This comes as no surprise; his grandmother was a full sibling to Cavalier Royale and his thoroughbred grandsire achieved a 10 for his canter when Holstein graded.

Caliber Royale himself has an impressive Holstein grading, achieving 8 for Trot, 9 for Canter, 8.5 for Walk and 9.5 for Jumping. As a performance horse, his results to date have been outstanding. As an Eventer he won and placed consistently up to BE Novice/CCI* level prior to transitioning to straight Showjumping. Now jumping clear rounds at 1.40m height with multiple top 10 placings, his future as both a performance horse and sire is extremely exciting.

Caliber Royale’s first foal crops are seriously impressive; they are tall, elegant, move extremely well and have inherited Caliber Royale’s kind and intelligent nature. He is attracting many return breeders who are delighted by the quality of his offspring, and a number of 4 star and 5 star eventing mares in the United Kingdom are currently carrying his foals. Australian Olympic eventers Shane Rose and Sam Griffiths are among those who have chosen to breed to Caliber Royale; Shane has already bred several foals including one from the dam of his former 5* eventer Shanghai Joe, and Sam is planning to breed an embryo transfer foal from his Badminton winner and Olympic team mount Paulank Brockagh.
