Mary Hanna & Ivanhoe win Victorian Dressage Festival CDI-W Grand Prix

Mary Hanna and Ivanhoe, Australia's reserve combination at this year's Paris Olympic Games, have claimed the CDI-W Grand Prix at the Victorian Dressage Festival.

Day two of the Martin Collins Dressage Festival at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre was jam-packed! With the start of the CDI classes, particularly the highly anticipated CDI-W, spectators were spoilt with choice of talented combinations from Preliminary to Grand Prix.

Mary Hanna and the beautiful Ivanhoe secured the win in the CDI-W Grand Prix with an impressive score of 72.087%. In typical Mary fashion, she and her KWPN gelding by Desperado performed a clean and tidy test.

In second was New Zealand rider Wendi Williamson on Don Vito MH. The pair had a couple of mistakes in their test today, however still finished on a super score of 71.391%. In third was Robbie McKinnon riding Alinta Veenvliet’s D’Esperanza, for a PB score of 69.478%. Close behind was Robbie’s husband, David McKinnon, riding Viv Lipshut’s Estupendo for a score of 68.870%. Fifth went to Rozzie Ryan riding Bronze Boy R for a personal best score of 67.848%, followed by Caroline Wagner and Ibicus with a score of 67.826%, and Justine Greer riding Fonzie II on another PB of 66.5%.

All seven combinations will now contest the CDI-W Grand Prix Freestyle on Saturday night, the winner of which takes out the FEI Dressage World Cup Pacific League Final – a title that comes with the opportunity to compete at the FEI World Cup Final in Basel, Switzerland next year.

Alexis Hellyer and the light-footed Del Piero ZF won the Luxehorse Grand Prix CDN today with a score of 65.125%. In second place was Jayne Lawrence riding Don Bravour with a score of 63.348%, and close behind was Jackson Stern riding Templeton Fursteniro with a score of 63.239% for third.

Maddison Vallender and her talented Ronan R secured the win in the Leader Equine CDI Under 25 Grand Prix with a personal best score of 67.246%. In second place was Amy Bachmann riding SWS Debutante for a score of 64.333% and in third was Isabelle Luxmoore riding Charlotte Pedersen’s Hill Cottage Jazmira with a score of 64.025%.

Medium Tour

The Elmore Equestrian Club Intermediate A had fierce competition for first place! Ruth Schneeberger secured the win with Miramar Serene for a score of 66.765%, while close behind was Faye Hinchcliffe and Revelry R with 66.373%. In third place was Julie Fernandez riding Genuine River with a score of 63.921%. Louisa Inge and Road to Jamieson were first in the Intermediate A pony class with a score of 62.745%.

Small Tour

Charlie Welsh and the stunning 10-year-old stallion Dante Quando OLD (by Dante Weltino OLD) had a resounding win in the Ramos Sport Intermediate I with almost 4% separating them from second! The combination finished on a score of 71.814%.

In second was yesterday’s Prix St Georges winners, Alexis Hellyer and her stallion Fidibus, with a score of 67.892%. Close on their heels was Madelon McDonald riding F1 Soliloquy with a score of 67.255%. In the Ramos Sport Pony Intermediate I it was Bettina Kopetzky and San Sebastien taking home the blue ribbon with a score of 64.461%. 

CDI-Y, CDI-J & CDI-Ch

The Whittlesea Plenty Valley Dressage Club CDI Young Rider Team Test saw four out of six combinations achieving personal bests! In first was Tia Rose McKenzie riding Franzisco RW with a score of 70.174%. Less than 1% behind was Jessica Dertell riding the Bordeaux stallion, Kilimanjaro, with a score of 69.706% and in third was Felicity Sutherland riding Estee with a score of 63.775%.

Maddison Vallender also claimed first in the Elmore Equestrian Club CDI Junior Team Test with her mare Rubinell for a score of 70.859%. In second was Tia Rose Mckenzie on Phenomenon with a score of 69.141%. It is very exciting to see two young riders achieving such great results in youth classes over multiple levels. In third was Emma Hutchinson and Freshman R with a PB score of 67.020%.

Sarah Inglis and Rosalie WE achieved a PB score of 69.405% to secure the win by almost 6% in the CDI Pony Team Test. In second was Tess Baker riding Hilkens No Kidding with a PB score of 63.809% and in third was Morgan Cockerell and Minteith Brunton with a PB score of 62.714%.

The Royal Mane CDI Childrens Preliminary A Test was also filled with personal best scores; eight out of nine riders secured a new high score, and all combinations should be very proud of themselves! Isla Oxley and Enbarr came out on top with a massive score of 79.500%. Amelia Maree riding Annabel Shoobridge’s Nobel Dancer placed second with 78.500% and in third was Amelia Maree again riding Samantha Vella’s Sunny Morning R with 76.750%.

It was also exciting to see a Thoroughbred in the mix for the CDI-Ch, with successful show horse St Andrews – piloted by 14-year-old Sienna Wright – finishing fifth on 74750%. This combination is also entered for the Off The Track Novice Championship on Sunday. You can read more about this combination in the December issue of Equestrian Life.

Preliminary Championship

Jasmine Abernethy and her imported mare Everleigh secured the Sabble Farms Preliminary Championship with second in the 1.2 on a score of 71.340% and first in the 1.3 with a score of 75.521%. Reserve Champion went to Zoe Farrant riding Equella Foxtrot, with a win in the 1.2 on a score of 71.607% and fifth in the 1.3 with 71.146%. Third place overall was AOR Deborah Carr riding Total Secrecy. In fourth overall was Danielle Cleland riding Wimborne Cognac and equal fifth was shared between Jessica Dertell riding Motion Equine’s Regal Floris Dance and Justine Greer riding Hollands Bend Designeur.

Cassandra Fason Jones and SPB Uno won the Pony Preliminary Championship with a win in the 1.2 with a score of 72.411% and third in the 1.3 with a score of 68.646%. Reserve Champion went to Kylie Watson riding Ibn Ky Tiny Dancer with a third in the 1.2 with a score of 70.804% and second in the 1.3 with a score of 71.771%. Equal third was shared by Tara Wilkinson riding Nilton Macho Man and Natalie Waters riding Freemans Lodge Daiya (the pair won the Preliminary 1.3). Fifth was Jessica Payne riding Murraydale Park Toy Boy and rounding out the top six was Liza Smith riding Nilton Spirit.

Young Horse & Pony classes

Justine Greer and the exciting stallion First Edition secured the win in round one of the HorseMate Four Year Old Young Horse on a score of 80.000%, with a highlight of 8.6 for canter. In second was Holly Stansfield-Smith riding Salamanca DS on a score of 78.200%, with a highlight of 8.1 for perspective. In third was David Shoobridge riding Delmara Sir Saintly on a score of 77.800%, with a highlight of 8.3 for canter.

In the HorseMate Four Year Old Pony Round One, Amelia McDougall and JKE Arlington secured first on a score of 76.200% with a highlight of 8.0 for submission. In second was Elizabeth Sheather riding Giddy Up Charlie on a score of 73.200% with a highlight of 7.5 for trot, and third was Toni Webb riding Freemans Lodge Daintree on a score of 72.000% with a highlight of 7.4 for canter, submission and perspective.

Justine Greer continued her winning streak today on Kerry Mack’s Mayfield Vibrance, posting another score of 80.000% in the Animal Therapeutics Five Year Old Young Horse Round Two. The combination had a highlight today of 8.2 for trot and perspective. In second was Shannon McKimmie riding Daniel Ash’s Springside Marconi on a score of 79.200%, with a highlight of 8.0 for trot and perspective. In third was Molly Farran and Kohinoor Rock My World on a score of 78.800% with a highlight of 8.0 for walk, submission and perspective.

Toni Webb and her pony Freemans Lodge Global won the Future Farms Five Year Old Pony Round 2 by 15% with another massive score of 85.800%, after the pair also dominated round one yesterday. The combination had a highlight of 9.0 for perspective. In second was Lily Diss and Dance on Air BHI on a score of 70.400% with a highlight of 7.2 for walk and canter. In third was Robyn Pearce riding Gaylene Whitten’s Kiuna Park Supernova on a score of 70.200%, with a highlight of 7.1 for walk and perspective.

Following their success in the Berwick & District Dressage Club Medium Championship yesterday, David Shoobridge and his Vitalis stallion, Vittorio DS won the Rachel Flynne Equine Photography Six Year Old Young Horse Round One on a score of 78.400%, with a highlight of 8.5 for canter. In second was Javais Ham riding Kathleen Uniacke’s Melliodora Coco on a score of 70.800% with a highlight of 7.5 for trot. In third was Jackson Stern riding NJS Keeping Secrets on a score of 66.200% with a highlight of 7.0 for canter.

In the Kelato 6 Year Old Pony Round One Steph Hann riding Georgina Ray’s Miss Holly Golightly BHI won on a score of 76.200% with a highlight of 8.0 for walk. In second was Leisha Salter and Brookside Willy Wonka on a score of 68.200% with a highlight of 7.5 for walk. In third was Kathleen Uniacke and Jack Frost BSP on a score of 65.000% with a highlight of 7.0 for walk.

Olivia Gillespie and Nottingham GP backed up their win from yesterday, winning round two of the Westernport Dressage Club Seven Year Old Young Horse class today with a score of 74.470%. In second place was Naomi Gollings riding Lillian Savage’s Keystone Furstin Class with a score of 72.461%.

Para Equestrian

The Grade IV Grand Prix B saw another win to Darcy MacAulay and Parklands Faltango on 65.991%, the Grade III Grand Prix B went to Kelly Ffrost and Lord Hemingway on 54%, and the Grade II Grand Prix B went to Maddison Cooke with Byalee Magic on 67.722%.
