Molly Lines and Tadpole claim CCI4*S at Ballarat International Horse Trials

The Marcus Oldham Ballarat International Horse Trials took place over the weekend, with competitors braving the cold to compete in classes ranging from EvA80 through to CCI4*S.

The BetaVet CCI4*S went to 18-year-old Molly Lines and 11-year-old off-the-track Thoroughbred Tadpole. The pair were equal sixth after the dressage before adding just 0.4 of a cross country time penalty to their score; they were the quickest combination of the class and finished on a total of 37 penalties. ‘Taddy’ was the only OTT in the field.

Racing as Liquid Courage, the gelding was unsuccessful as a racehorse and won all of $1200 in his short career. Molly purchased him from Hayley Coman as a not long off-the-track six-year-old. Molly has since taken Taddy up the eventing grades, winning the CCI2*L Junior class at Melbourne International Three-Day Event last year and finishing top ten in the CCI3*L at the recent Adelaide Equestrian Festival, before stepping up to four-star level at Ballarat. What a great birthday present for Molly, who turns 19 on today!

Second place in the CCI4*S went to David Middleton and WEC In The Money on 39.7, while Samuel Jeffree and Koyuna Tactitian were third on 49.3.

The Hewitt and Whitty Saddlery CCI3*S saw David Middleton go one better to claim the win with WEC In The Breeze on 39.3. Sophia Hill and her OTT Seattle Park were second on 40.3, and Hannah Klep with Tulara Chicouve finished third on 45.5.

It was Sophia’s turn to go one better in the Apiam Animal Health CCI2*S, winning the class with Tulara Baltango on 28. Second place went to Will Enzinger and Epic Xtreme on 29.5, with Edward Darby and Somerset Day third on 31.3.
