Riding the 14-year-old Gestut Sprehe stallion Destano, Australian Simone Pearce has finished in eighth place at the FEI Dressage World Cup™ qualifier in Salzburg, Austria, competing in a star studded field of many of the world’s best dressage riders.
Reigning five-time series champion and World No. 1, Germany’s Isabell Werth, won the class on a score of 81.848% riding Weihegold OLD, the 16-year-old mare with which she claimed the prestigious title at the last three Finals, in Omaha (USA) in 2017, Paris (France) in 2017 and Gothenburg (Sweden) in 2019.
Fellow German Jessica von Bredow-Werndl finished second with 79.630% riding 14-year-old Trakehner mare TSF Dalera BB, the horse with which she holds the number 3 spot in the World Rankings. Sweden’s Patrik Kittel Swedish rode the Oatley family’s 15-year old Oldenburg gelding Delaunay to third place with 76.087% ahead of fourth placed Dorothee Schneider and the 13-year-old gelding Faustus.
Helen Langehanenberg placed fifth on 74.457% with Annabelle 110, Sweden’s Antonia Ramel sixth with Brother de Jeu on 73.500%, and Denmark’s Carina Cassøe Krüth seventh on 72.804% riding Heiline’s Danciera.
Simone Pearce and Destano showed harmony, relaxation and expression, with a few minor hiccups bringing their final score down to 72.043% for eighth place. On her Instagram page, Simone Pearce wrote: “Mixed feeling about today’s Grand Prix. A tentatively ridden test with too many mistakes unfortunately brought down the score but there were also some really nice highlights in the piaffe and pirouettes which I was super happy with. You live and you learn and now I’m looking forward to regroup and focus on producing a more gusto and precise test in the Freestyle tomorrow.”
Good luck to Simone in today’s Freestyle!
