Aussie show jumpers step out again in Doha

By Equestrian Life

A strong Australian contingent has taken to the Longines arena at Al Shaqab for the H.H. The Amir’s Sword International Equestrian Festival (13-17 February) in Doha, Qatar.

Edwina Tops-Alexander, Jamie Kermond, Amber Fuller and Amelia Douglass all had a big few days of competition, with some exciting results ahead of next weekend’s CHI Al Shaqab – a drawcard international event at the same venue.

A highlight for the Australians was the CSI5* Immediate Jump Off 1.40m on the Saturday, where two Aussies finished in the top three: Jamie Kermond and stallion Zirano (Zirocco Blue VDL x Quadam) finished second, while Edwina Tops-Alexander and mare Labantrix (Eldorado Vd Zeshoek x Abantos Nra Stb 83 4) were third.

“Labantrix is one of my newer horses, we have been working really hard on building a partnership over the last few months. I am very excited to see what the future holds for us!” said Edwina of her KWPN mare.

Australian combinations were also in the placings for several other classes across the three days of competition.

Earlier at the event on the Thursday, Edwina and Labantrix finished ninth and in the placings of the CSI5* Special Two-Phases 1.40m, while in the CSI5* Two Phases 1.45m, Jamie and Australian-bred mare Tulara Lady Zirocca (Zirocco Blue VDL x Colman) finished eighth, and Amber Fuller and Nopal Van Tallaert were eleventh.

On the Friday, Edwina was again in the placings, finishing fifth with Corelli de Mies in the CSI5* Jump Off 1.50, tenth with Chakiro PS in the CSI3* Immediate Jump Off 1.35m, and eighth in the CSI5* Faults & Time 1.40m with Labantrix – a busy event for the four-time Olympian! Also on Friday in the CSI5* Faults & Time 1.45m, Jamie was twelfth and in the placings riding Tulara Lady Zirocca.

On Saturday, Amelia Douglass and Quel Filou 16 were tenth in the CSI3* Grand Prix Jump Off 1.50m, and Edwina was ninth in the CSI5* Grand Prix Jump Off 1.60m with Fellow Castlefield. Jamie was twelfth in the CSI3* Faults & Time 1.35m with Carino Mio and eleventh in the CSI5* Jump Off 1.50m with Tulara Lady Zirocca.

Full results from the H.H. The Amir’s Sword International Equestrian Festival can be found here.

Congratulations to our Australian riders and best of luck to those competing at CHI Al Shaqab!
