Billy Raymont & Anton win World Cup season opener
The first round of the Australian 2022 FEI World Cup Qualifying season was held over the weekend in Shepparton, Victoria, with Billy Raymont and Anton taking out top honours.
The pair, who have long enjoyed success on the Australian World Cup circuit, edged out Russell Johnstone and Daprice, with current Australian Senior Champions Olivia Hamood and Jane Fonda DVD in third. Next was Jess Pateman and Celso, Phillip Lever and Lomachenko, Billy with his second ride Black Jack IXE, Anthony Thomas and SL Donato, Olivia with her second ride Knock Out 111, Sarah McMillan and Tyrone VDL, Sam Overton and Yirrkala Cameron, Brook Dobbin and Gina MVNZ, and Katrina Hope rounding out the top 12 with Oaks Gunn.
Shepparton was the first of ten World Cup qualifiers in Australia this season, and it was held at the grounds of the Northern Victorian Show Jumping Club for the first time in quite a few years. With last season (won by Tom McDermott) only being a brief three-leg offering due to Covid, competitors are no doubt looking forward to a little more continuity this time around.
