Boyd Exell third in “Top Score” event at CHIO Aachen
By Equestrian Life
Australian four-in-hand driver Boyd Exell has finished third in the ‘Prize of Fa. Horsch, Der Entsorger’ at CHIO Aachen, finishing the ‘Top Score’ with 1860 points.
Much like a show jumping Top Score event, the four-in-hand driving version is essentially a course with different obstacles that are assigned points based on their degree of difficulty. Teams then choose their own course, tackling obstacles more than once if they like, in order to achieve the highest points tally possible within a time limit.
Boyd’s equine team for this event included Celviro, Checkmate, Hero and Ivor – the same four that contested Thursday’s dressage –although unlike the dressage, the Top Score class does not count towards the Combined Driving championship.
The Netherlands’ Ijsbrand Chardon won the Top Score on 1910 points, with Bram Chardon second on 1870 – so it was very close at the top of the results tally.
Boyd’s Australian teammate, Tor Van Den Berge, finished in 21st place on 1130 points with his team of Carbery Estate Cato, Carbery Estate Chino, Indiana and Jeebert.
Congratulations to all!
Today the four-in-hand drivers contest the Marathon phase of the Combined Driving. View the draw and start times here.
