Brett and Rabbit scored 70.109% at WEG in the Grand Prix to finish in 32nd place and only narrowly missed out on qualification for the Special. Their best scores over the years included a 74.7% in the Freestyle at Sydney in 2015 — in fact, the pair scored over 74% in the Freestyle five times in their career, the last being 74.485% at Boneo earlier this year. Their best Grand Prix score was 70.820% in Sydney, 2015, and throughout their career they scored over 70% in the Grand Prix test four times — three of those tests being in 2018. What incredibly consistent combination they’ve been!

Rabbit will be sadly missed in Australia where he has wowed crowds at all the big CDIs for the past few years since he stepped out at Grand Prix in 2014 — however, there’s no doubt he’s found a loving forever home with his new rider!

Brett announced the sale on his Facebook page:

I have a bittersweet announcement to make. Our awesome DP Weltmeiser (Rabbit) has found a wonderful new home in the US.

Following WEG, Rabbit stayed with Boyd and Silva Martin in Pennsylvania and has been sold to a delightful amateur rider Christina Morin.

Rabbit was bred in Australia by Susie Duddy and her parents Brian and Barbara Marheine, and he is the last in a long line of successful horses to come from their Hunter Valley breeding program. The Duddys and Marheines have been outstanding supporters of Australia dressage, and of me, my family and my business. I will forever be grateful for their unwavering support. Thank you!

I share the Duddy and Marheine family sentiments that Rabbit was an amazing and important horse, and he will be profoundly missed, but it is very comforting to know he is in such great hands with Christina.

Christina, we wish you the very best and look forward to supporting you and Rabbit in the future.

Rabbit, goodbye and thanks for being my best mate.

It has also been reported that Brett has acquired three new horses from Europe via Willinga Park’s Terry Snow — Fusion de Hus (2010 KWPN gelding by Rubiquil out of Welkom by Krack C), Theodore (11-year old Dutch Warmblood by Tuschinski out of Prencis by Kennedy) and Spot On (by Sezuan x Solos Carex).

We look forward to seeing these new horses in action in the coming years!
