Calourina PS breaks the million Euro mark at P.S.I. December Auction

Corona virus lockdowns have not dimmed enthusiasm at the P.S.I December Auction in Germany, with mare Calourina PS (Carembar de Muze x Baloubet du Rouet) breaking the million Euro mark.

The trust of the international buyers in the Kasselmann and Schockemöhle families and the loyalty to the P.S.I. brand is evident. “We would like to thank our clients, employees and everyone involved for the trust places in us in those troubled times”, summarized Paul Schockemöhle and Ullrich Kasselmann following the auction.

For the first time in the 41-year history of Performance Sales International, the event took place without an audience. Bidding on the selected dressage and show jumping horses took place exclusively by telephone after prior registration. For a last look at the auction candidates in the ring, there was FaceTime with the sales managers or a live stream on the P.S.I. homepage. However, two other traditions were not interrupted: as in previous years, Marko Vassalli sang Beethoven’s well-known ‘Ode to Joy’ at the start the auction, and the quality of the collection was impressive.

Auctioneer Hendrik Schulze Rückamp and the sales managers of Hof Kasselmann and Paul Schockemöhle may have been alone in the indoor arena of the P.S.I. Sport and Auction Centre in Ankum, but they still had their hands full. It did not take long until the million mark was exceeded. Already the third horse in the ring, catalogue number 35, the six-year-old Carembar de Muze x Baloubet du Rouet daughter Calourina PS changed into French ownership for 1.6 million Euros. This sister to 1.60m show jumper Jalellah OL by Louise Saywell provided the top result of this year’s auction.

The four-year-old Hanoverian stallion Diaton (Dimaggio x Benetton Dream) was certainly on the wish list of many dressage connoisseurs. The son of the well-known dressage horse maker Dimaggio is out of Blind Date Bailola by Benetton Dream, who is competed by Swedish Olympian Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfven. The pedigree is completed on the maternal side by the Trakehner stallion Hohenstein. In the end, clients of Californian Grand Prix trainer David Wilson, Perfect International Equine Inc came out on top at 700,000 Euros. Frederic Wandres, Hof Kasselmann rider and Olympic squad member, will train Diaton for the international young horse sport.

A ‘hot line’ to the dressage mecca Wellington secured another future star in the arena: the licensed Virtual Story by Vitalis x Don Primero comes from the proven Oldenburg dam line of Love Story, which has already brought us many successful dressage horses, elite mares and premium stallions, such as Dream Catcher and Franklin’s Love.

The full siblings Great Story and Gremlin by Grey Flannel x Donnerschwee sold for 450,000 and 500,000 Euros respectively. The talented KWPN gelding Jovanni (Davino x Gribaldi) had already caused a buzz in the live presentation last weekend and went for 500,000 Euros to a well-known patron of dressage in Germany.

A special bidding duel unfolded for the Kannan x Stakkatol son Kannatol. Dam Stalognia was the top price at the 2015 P.S.I. Auction and is now highly successful over 1.60m with Colombian Olympic show jumper René Lopez. Granddam Chalanda, herself a P.S.I. top price in 2012, was victorious over 1.60m under Philip Houston. As the last bid, the athletic grey stallion was auctioned for 615,000 Euros.

The impressive auction lot of 20 dressage and 22 show jumping horses fetched an overall result of 14,568,000 Euros. The average price for the show jumpers were at 396,682 Euro and for the dressage horses 292,050 Euro. The international buyers came from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, France, Portugal, Russia, Australia, Taiwan, North and South America, among others.
