Champion dressage horse Salinero dies

Anky van Grunsven’s Salinero died on the 6th of December. He was 28 years old. Born in 1994 by Salieri out of Luna, he was bred by Horst Bunger. When Bonfire, Anky’s other superstar retired, Salinero became her main ride. Together they won the 2003, 2005 and 2007 Dutch Grand Prix Championships. At the 2004 Olympics, they won the Grand Prix Freestyle with a score of 79.278%. They placed second in the Special with a score of 76.004%.

At the 2006 World Equestrian Games, Anky again won the Freestyle. At the 2008 Olympics in Hong Kong, the pair placed second in the Grand Prix with 74.750% and won the Freestyle to music with a 78.680%. In 2010 Salinero got an injury and in 2012 at the London Olympics, they helped the Dutch team claim a bronze medal. It was their last competition together. They scored 82% and finished in sixth place in the Freestyle. A special career and partnership.
