Eventing community deeply saddened by horse deaths
The Australian eventing community has been shocked and deeply saddened by the deaths of two horses at separate events over the weekend.
Equestrian Life’s thoughts are with the riders, owners and all those connected with these two horses, as well as the organising committees at Naracoorte Horse Trials and Tamborine Equestrian Group.
Equestrian Australia has released two statements in regards to the tragic incidents:
Statement regarding Tamborine Equestrian Group One Day International Event
Equestrian Australia has become aware that earlier [Sunday] during the Tamborine Equestrian Group One Day International Event CCN1* an incident has occurred.
It is confirmed that the rider is safe, however the horse has passed away. The horse has been respectfully removed to a private and secure location.
In accordance with EA-FEI event SIMP and Critical Incident Management Plan, incident response protocols were followed. More information will follow in due course.

Statement regarding Naracoorte Horse Trials Event
Equestrian Australia has become aware that earlier today during the Naracoorte Horse Trials CCI4*S an incident has occurred.
The rider is stable and has been transported to hospital, however the horse passed away immediately.
In accordance with EA-FEI event SIMP and Critical Incident Management Plan, incident response protocols were followed. More information will follow in due course.

This morning’s EA High Performance update explains that the governing body will release further findings in due course:
“Over the weekend it was with great sadness that we learned of two horse fatalities at events in Australia, one at an FEI event in the CCI4*-S competition and the other at CCN1* national level. All Critical Incident Management Protocols were followed at both events.
“The CCI4*-S rider was transported to hospital in a stable condition and the national level rider was uninjured following the incident. At every event maximum consideration is given to the safety and welfare of both horses and riders and we extend our deepest sympathy to those parties connected to both combinations. Equestrian Australia has confirmed they will release further findings in due course.”
