The French Equestrian Federation have recently announced their new squad and team selection criteria for this year and the next. The French Equestrian Federation will be working with both an A squad and B squad, which will be labeled Group 1 and Group 2.

The decision for the French Equestrian Federation to focus on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games was stepped up a notch when they decided not to send anyone to the 2018 World Equestrian Games of Tryon just weeks before the anticipated event commenced.

The French Equestrian Federation’s statement on the matter stated that “The goal for the moment is to continue making progress with the pairs in international tests en route to the 2019 European Championships in Rotterdam and to obtain qualifications for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.”

More information on the French Equestrian Federation’s decision to not send a team to the 2018 World Equestrian Games of Tryon can be found HERE.

The French Equestrian Federation wish to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games via the 2019 European Championships in Rotterdam, which will be held from the 19th of August to the 25th of August. However, the ultimate goal and focus is on creating a strong and direct pathway to the 2024 Olympic Games, which will be held in Paris, France.

Group 1 will be for dressage, and will be chosen based on the actual team riders. To be selected for this group, riders must score more than 70% at least three times at a national Grand Prix CDI3* test, of which at least one much be abroad. These results must be obtained within a 12 month period, and the most recent score can not be older than six months.

For riders to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic selection process, they must score above 73% in a Grand Prix test of a CDI-W or CDI 5* or 4* show.

The announcement of the two French Grand Prix dressage squads for 2019 will be announced at the end of this month.
