Godolphin’s poster boy, Hartnell, has swapped satins for ribbons in his new career as a show horse.
The 9-year-old imported British gelding has retired after an impressive 58 starts and four Group 1 wins, amassing more than seven million dollars in prize money.
The popular thoroughbred has raced across the world and was also known for his rivalry with champion and 25-time Group 1 winner Winx.
Now, Hartnell will continue to strut his stuff in the show ring, following many ex-racehorses down a career path that has proved the thoroughbred’s adaptability and athleticism.
According to The Age, Godolphin will retain ownership in Hartnell and he will become one of their Lifetime Care Program’s flagbearers, alongside Hauraki and It’s Somewhat.
Reg Fleming, who worked closely with Bart Cummings and now his grandson James at Godolphin, will remain Hartnell’s custodian in his new career in the show ring.
