At the recent Dressage International at Haras de Jardy in France (16-18 June), Australian riders Rebecca Rooke and Warwick McLean both gained qualifying scores for the FEI WBFSH Dressage World Breeding Championships for Young Horses (3-6 August in Ermelo).

Rebecca Rooke and Forever Young Hanovria were fourth in the CDI-YH 5YO Preliminary Test with 80.8%, and then second in the 5YO Final with 83.4%. The French-bred Hanoverian mare is by Fürstenball out of the Foundation mare Freestyle Hanovria, and is owned by Aurélie Frost.

Rebecca was also second in the CDI-YH 7YO Preliminary Test with Pour Andrig de Barroue on 69.779% and then won the 7YO Final on 72.572%. Pour Andrig de Barroue is a French-bred Trakehner gelding by Donauruf out of Sponeck mare Muschamp Pour L’Avenir and is owned by Marc-Alain Bahuchet. Rebecca and Pour Andrig de Barroue represented Australia in the 2021 FEI WBFSH Dressage World Breeding Championships for Young Horses in the 5YO division.

Warwick McLean was second in the CDI-YH 6YO Preliminary Test with Abtwald’s Goetterfunke on 81%, and then won the 6YO Final with 80%. The German-bred Oldenburger gelding is by Grand Galaxy Win, out of Sandro Prinz mare Feuerfee Vom Abtwald, and is owned by Stefan Erdtmann.

To be considered for selection for the World Championships, seven-year-old overseas based horses must have a minimum of one performance (MER) of at least 70% at a CDI-YH, while five- and six-year-old horses require a score of at least 75%. As was the case last year, FEI rules stipulate that Australia is only able to send one combination in each age category, with preference given to homebred (Australian-bred) horses – however, overseas-bred horses with Australian riders may compete if no qualified homebred horses enter.
