Influential dressage stallion Broere Jazz has sadly passed away at the age of 29.

Jazz, by Cocktail and out of Charmante (by Ulster), was the leading dressage sire of 2019 and is recognised as one of the most influential of all time — also topping this list from 2008-2011. In fact, he has been in the top five every year since 2008. At present, he still leads the World Breeding Federation of Sport Horses (WBFSH) dressage sire rankings.

Broere Stud released a statement on their Facebook page (translated):

“With pain in the heart, but especially grateful for what he has meant for us and for the breeding and breeding, we had to say goodbye to the king of our stable Broere Jazz last week. Broere Jazz has become 29 years old, we will miss him. Goodbye!”

Besides being a super sire, the stallion also had a successful career under saddle. With Tineke Bartels, Jazz represented the Netherlands at the 2002 WEG in Spain. Purchased by Cees and Anne Broere  of Broere Stud in 2004, he continued to compete internationally until 2011 with Kirsten Beckers.

His success at stud is well documented, with more than 130 of his offspring reaching Grand Prix level.

In Australia, there has been many top dressage horses by Jazz, including Kerry Mack’s Mayfield Pzazz and Mary Hanna’s Umbro (now owned and ridden by Jasmine Haynes).
