Isabell Werth to contest World Cup Final with Weihegold OLD
German Olympian Isabell Werth will contest the FEI World Cup Final next month with 17 year old mare Weihegold OLD, where she’ll hope to claim her fourth straight title.
Isabell, who rode the Oldenburg mare to claim the title in Omaha in 2017, Paris in 2018 and Gothenburg in 2019, has said that following the Finals in Leipzig, Germany, the superstar mare will be retired from competition.
It will be the first World Cup Final since the pandemic, with the event being cancelled in 2020 and 2021. Isabell competed Weihegold at one World Cup qualifier this season, and DSP Quantaz at two, as only two appearances were required for the titleholder to earn a start in Leipzig.
Claiming a fourth straight title won’t be easy, as the pair have Olympic and European champions Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and TSF Dalera BB to contend with – alongside many others.
The definite entries list can be found here.
Unfortunately for Australia, with no shows due to Covid there was no Pacific League allocation this season.
