Jaye Barnesby-Buie claims bronze for Australia in Berlin
The Special Olympics World Games, the world’s largest inclusive sporting event, is underway in Berlin. At the Games, 7,000 athletes with intellectual disability from 190 delegations are competing across 26 sports over nine days.
Team Australia has just won its first medals of the Games, including a bronze medal in the equestrian arena!
Jaye Barnesby-Buie of Perth has collected bronze in the Level A Dressage (D04) with a terrific score of 70.6%. Jaye rode a borrowed horse named Querida-Quamira (pictured).
Joining Jaye in Berlin are three other Australian riders: Karen Messmer, 16, from Rockhampton; Oliver King, 15 (and the youngest of the whole Australian team), from Brisbane; and Isabella Parisi, 23, from the Gold Coast. Karen, Oliver and Isabella are competing in dressage, English trail and equitation, with their classes still to come, while Jaye still has her equitation and equitation jumping events to come. We wish them the best of luck!
