Julia Krajewski announces retirement of Amande De B’Neville
By Equestrian Life
Top German eventing rider Julia Krajewski has announced the retirement of her Tokyo individual gold medal winning mare, Amande De B’Neville (by Oscar Des Fontaines out of Perle De B’Neville, by Elan De La Cour).
The 14-year-old Selle Francais mare was last seen in international competition at the 2022 FEI World Eventing Championships in Pratoni, Italy where she secured individual silver and helped Germany achieve team gold.
At the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, ‘Mandy’ partnered with Julia as the German rider became the first ever female Olympic eventing individual gold medallist.
Julia rode Mandy throughout the mare’s 31-start FEI career, with four wins and several placings at some of the world’s biggest events. Besides her Olympic and World Championship successes, the mare won the CCI4*L at Saumur, France prior to Tokyo, and also won the CCI4*S in Wiesbaden, Germany in the lead up to the World Championships.
Julia, who owns Mandy in conjunction with Bernd Heicke, has said the mare will not return to sport due to a hoof issue, which has failed to improve as hoped despite trying a range of different treatment options. Mandy will now begin life as a broodmare.
