Mary Hanna claims Grand Prix CDI3* at Dressage by the Sea

The first full day of competition at Willinga Park’s Dressage by the Sea commenced with a bang!

The highly anticipated Interpath Grand Prix CDI3* was one to watch! Mary Hanna and the elegant Syriana came out on top with a fault free test to score 72.239%. In second was Jayden Brown riding WillingaPark Sky Diamond; this combination continues to improve and with one costly mistake in the one tempis keeping them shy of hitting the 70%, there is lots to come! In third was John Thompson riding Kate Kyros’s powerful black stallion, Chemistry, with a score of 69.478%.

It is exciting to note that eight combinations, including Mary Hanna on Syriana; Jayden Brown on both Terry and Ginette Snow’s WillingaPark Sky Diamond and Rose Deo and Jenny Gehrke’s, Senator Nymphenburg; John Thompson and Chemistry (for NZ); Michelle Baker and Bradgate Park Puccini; Sally Rizzuto on Diamond Star; Lindsey Ware on Aristede; and Matthew Dowsley on Emma Wheel’s Santiago, all achieved MER scores that are pending approval from the JSP tonight, after having watched live coverage today.

After a riveting Equilume Intermediate II on Day One, with David McKinnon and Forlan claiming first with 70.118% and Sue Hearn and Galaxy in second on a score of 67.382%, the seats were filled up for the Cox Architecture CDN Grand Prix. In first was Susan Elekessy and Don Rubin, who produced a safe and seamless test for 66.065%. In second was Melinda Hart and Richmond H with a score of 64.848%, and in third was Linda Foster and Neversfelde Samiro with a score of 62.131%.

With five horses scoring above 70% in the Kyros Family Prix St Georges, it was certainly an exciting class! Jayden Brown and the exceptional WillingaPark Quincy B produced a massive score of 76.275% for first place. In second and third was Alexis Hellyer and Daenarys on 72.451% and Robbie McKinnon and Silmarillion E with a score of 72.255% keeping everyone on their toes.

The Shepherd Electrical CDI U25 Intermediate II was won by Jessica Dertell and Sabble Farm’s gorgeous Eskara De Jeu. Jessica backed up her winning streak with a first in the CDI Young Rider Team Competition Test, with a PB score on the beautiful Gladstone MH (also owned by Sabble Farm) of 70.931%.

The Medium Championships came to their conclusion today. In the Interpath Division A, Matthew Dowsley riding the stunning Fribaldi backed up their win from yesterday with another great score of 74.865% for first in the Medium 4B securing them the Interpath Division A Champion. Rozzie Ryan and MSJ Nemo scored 72.298% in the 4B today to claim Reserve Champion. In the Kohnke’s Own Division B it was a close group yesterday with less than 1% separating first and second being John Thompson riding Sue West’s Bachelor and Jayden Brown riding Pamela Barton’s fiery Kasjmir respectively. Today in the 4B, John Thompson continued his success with another first on Bachelor with a score of 72.297%, securing him the Kohnke’s Own Division B Medium Championship. Despite of some costly mistakes leaving Jayden and Kasjmir in fifth, the combination’s great scores still confirmed them as Reserve Champion for Division B.

Matthew Lord and the stallion Immenhof Scout commenced the Barastoc Intermediate A with a great score of 67.304% to start and finish the class in first. In second was Jodie Dunstan and Hollands Bend Highlander, with the piaffe being a highlight; the combination finished on a score of 66.863%. In third was Denise Rogan and Legendary, owned by herself and Liza Carver, with a score of 65.931%.

Today saw the first test in the Construction Control Advanced Championship and it was Queenslander Hillary McGregor-Potter riding Karabil Park Sir Jazz who secured the win on a score of 72.566%. Less than 0.5% behind in second was Jayden Brown and WillingaPark Fangio on a score of 72.303% and in third was Shanon McKimmie riding Amanda Tivey’s, Windermere Zephora W with a score of 71.382%.

In the River Oak Equestrian Centre FEI Junior Team Competition Test, Kate Kyros and Courtlands Candyman danced their way to first with a score of 66.667%. Jessica Skinner and Burrowa Bashar had a great start to the Netier FEI Pony Championship with a super score of 68.286% in the FEI Pony Rider Team Competition Test.

With classes commencing at 8am tomorrow, spectators and riders alike are looking forward to what the next day will hold.
