Mary Hanna has made the decision to move back to Australia with her string of elite dressage horses to assist her daughter Gitte, who is recovering after sustaining a traumatic head injury after falling from a horse.

Mary shared a post on the Statene Park Facebook page which read:

“10 days ago my daughter Gitte suffered a traumatic head injury after a horse fell with her. I have made the decision to bring my horses home to Australia, so I can remain close to her and her family during the recovery phase. She is making steady progress but it will be a long road and I need to be there for her.

Hopefully my horses will make the journey, and stay healthy. It’s always a long and dangerous trip but , if all goes well I will continue my Olympic Campaign from home. The horse community in Australia and World wide have been so incredibly supportive. There really are some wonderful people out there. From the bottom of my heart I thank them , as well as my close friends and family. Patrik Kittel my trainer has been very understanding and has promised to keep training me via video.

A huge thanks to my loyal and capable staff who are making the transition back home as smooth as possible . Casey Louise, Tori Weir, Bec Holmes and Dolly Broadway. You are all legends.

For my beautiful daughter Gitte please keep saying your prayers.”

Equestrian Life wishes Gitte a fast and full recovery, and wishes Mary all the best with her move back to Australia.
