One owner per horse allowed to attend the Tokyo Olympics
By Equestrian Life
It has been reported that only one owner per horse will be allowed to travel to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics instead of the usual two, with national equestrian federations being notified last week by the FEI.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Tokyo organising committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (TOCOG) decided on the one-owner per horse rule to restrict the number of people travelling to the Games – a measure taken due to the pandemic.
This will no doubt create issues for horses owned by syndicates or couples – a situation that is quite common at the elite end of the sport. It has been reported that Great Britain and the Netherlands have petitioned against the rule to date.
