Ruth Pattie sees horses differently to those owners who see them as a commodity with a used-by date.

They come into Ruth’s care at her Helenvale Horse Sanctuary, outside of Cooktown, for a range of reasons and in various conditions.
 
But each horse is valued, even when they can no longer do what their former owners have asked or expected of them.
