Sydney CDI to go ahead as National event for 2021
By Equestrian Life
The iconic Sydney CDI event will go ahead in 2021, but not in the format we have seen in the past. Just as the Brisbane CDI adjusted to being a CDN earlier this year, so too will Sydney.
Organisers have announced that in 2021, the event will be run as the “SYDNEY CD-LITE”.
“With international travel restrictions, border closures and crowd limitations likely to be still with us for the early part of 2021, the Sydney CDI Organising Committee has decided the event will still go ahead but in a slightly different format, as we adapt to the challenging COVID times. Welcome to the 2021 Sydney CD-Lite!” reads an event statement.
“Current FEI requirements for the conduct of CDI events, coupled with the restrictions outlined above, mean it will not be possible to include “international” (CDI) competitions this year. But we are still offering a comprehensive programme featuring all FEI competitions from Prix St Georges to Grand Prix level, including equivalent CDI-U25, CDI-Y, CDI-J & CDI-P, conducted as CDN (national competitions) instead. The NSW Young Horse Championships and always popular EA Advanced competitions will also be included.
“Competitors from all around Australia are always keen to have the opportunity to compete at SIEC during the Sydney CDI and we anticipate that the Sydney CD-Lite will prove just as enticing with over $30,000 in prize money plus prizes and trophy rugs.
“Running for three-and-a-half days from Wednesday 28 April, to Saturday 1 May 2021, there is also an educational workshop for judges and riders on Sunday 2 May. Australia’s top judges will officiate, and we are hopeful that New Zealand judges will be able to travel to Australia to join the panel.”
While it will not be run as an international event, we have no doubt organisers will put on a fabulous show as always and we look forward to following all the action 28 April to 1 May, 2021!
