The first day of the 2018 Victoria Dressage Championships got underway yesterday at Werribee Park, with temperatures making things a little uncomfortable for competitors!
The Advanced Championship was run and won, with Revelry R ridden by Faye Hinchliffe taking out first place. The pair won both tests. Runner up went to Ruth Schneeberger and Roxleigh Fidelio. The Pony Advanced Championship went to Susan Elekessy and Miss Devine M, who won both Pony tests.
The hotly contested Preliminary Championship was won by Justine Greer and Revelwood Stedfast; the pair finished second in both tests with scores over 70%. Runner up in the Championship went to Fiona Guthrie and HV Duke, who also produced two very consistent performances to finish third and score over 70% in both tests. The winners of the individual tests were Sally Stagg and Fandango (74.520%) in the 1.2, and Brooke Mclaren on Opium Dream (74.674%) in the 1.3.
The Pony Preliminary Championship went to Michelle Mathlin and Brookside Daisy, who won the 1.2 and finished second in the 1.3 behind Faye Hinchliffe and Belmore Park Perfect Timing.
In the young horses classes, Maree Tomkinson and Furst Deluxe impressed in the 6 Year Old Young Horse class, winning easily with a huge score of 84.200% – scoring 8 for the trot, 9 for the walk, 8.5 for the canter, 8 for submission and 8.6 for perspective. The 6 Year Old Young Pony class went to Lisa Swan and Butterfly Farm Elle on 73.000%.
In the FEI classes, it was Jessica Hivon and Greenoaks Weltmann who won the Intermediate A (64.265%), and Christina McElwain and Bonifass RDH who won the Intermediate II on 63.873%.
Competition continues today at Werribee, including the Grand Prix.
