The annual Étoiles de Pau CCI4* commenced yesterday in Pau, France with the trot up. The CCI4* at Pau is part of the FEI Classics eventing series, with this event being one out of the six four star events that occur in each season.

Other CCI4* events include Burghley Horse Trials, Badminton Horse Trials, the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event, the Australian International Three Day Event and the Luhmühlen Horse Trials.

This year, the only Australian rider competing is Ryan Wood riding the 11 year old chestnut gelding Woodstock Bennet. Bennett is an 11-year-old Irish Sport Horse (Shannondale Sarco X Ponail Belle) owned by the Woodstock Bennett Syndicate. The pair have had a great season, finishing 17th in Ireland at Tattersalls CCI3*, and most recently 4th at Morven Park CIC3*.

Ryan and Bennett have travelled from their home base in the US to France in order to compete at Pau – Good luck Ryan!
