For almost a thousand years, the lethal African Horse Sickness has killed hundreds of thousands of horses.

However, a new vaccine developed in Dubai is being rolled out across Sudan this week and could stop the deadly disease in its tracks.

The vaccine was developed at the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory in Dubai, and 500 doses have been delivered to the North African country.

Similar to the COVID-19 vaccines, this jab holds inactivated versions of the AHS and will be initially distributed to showjumpers and racehorses across Sudan.

African Horses Sickness is highly infectious and nearly always fatal. It can affect horses, donkeys, and mules.

The disease can kill within a week of infection and particularly attacks the host’s respiratory system.
