The Victorian Dressage Festival gets underway

The much-anticipated Victorian Dressage Festival got underway yesterday at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre, with young horses through to Big Tour competitors taking to the arena.

The first Big Tour class of the event, the Inter II, was won by the in-form combination of 18-year-old Jessica Dertell and imported stallion Cennin, with the pair scoring 69.150%. Charlotte Pedersen and Baunehøjens Diamond Dancer finished second with 64.853%, and another young rider in Isabelle Luxmoore was third, riding Hill Cottage Jazmira to a score of 63.824%.

The Inter A was won by Campbell Baxter and Heatherton Park Rapscallion on a score of 65.294%.

The highly competitive Prix St Georges went to Caroline Wagner and the exciting Ibicus, with the pair scoring 72.941%. It was close at the top, with Justine Greer and Yarramee Fonzie scoring 72.843% for second, and Janet Seccull scoring 72.010% aboard Bloomfield Vegas for third.

The Pony Prix St Georges went to Louisa Inge riding Road To Jamieson (AOR) with a score of 64.853%.

In the young horses classes, the 7YO Young Horse Qualifying Round went to Merricks Sonique and Alicia Ryan on 61.543%; the 6YO class went to BZ Qantas and Maddison Growcott on 79.4%; the 5YO class went to David Shoobridge and stallion Sicario on 88%; and the 4YO class saw another win to David, this time riding Vittorio DS to a score of 84%.

The 6YO Young Pony Qualifying Round went to Roseland Park Elegance, ridden by Kristen Lyons with a score of 69%, while the 5YO and 4YO classes were won by  Maddison Growcott with Nova Dancer (75%) and Kingsfield Chilli De Luxe (70.6%) respectively.

In the para dressage classes, Maddison Cooke and Byalee Magic II won the Grade II Team Test on 68.283% and the Grade II Individual Test on 67.588%. The Grade IV Team Test went to Kylie Christian and Bellaire Cannavaro on 63.875%, while the Grade IV Individual Test was won by Dianne Barnes and Sorena on 72.968%. The Grade V Team and Individual Tests went to Mietta Innes-Irons on Schonherz with scored of 57.132% and 59.222% respectively.

The large Preliminary classes saw Brooke Wheeler (AOR) and Jenjan Furst Arrival win the 1C on 72.947%, while Natasha Moody won the 1C with APH Ashton on 76.875% in a hotly contested class that saw the top ten over 70%.

In the Pony Preliminary classes, Jayde Whitehead (AOR) won the 1B with Stop N Stare on 74.018%, while young rider Jessica Sharpe won the 1C riding Aylestone Park Valdez to a score of 71.697%.
