Thomas Carlile’s Upsilon on the mend following serious illness

French eventer Thomas Carlile’s stallion, Upsilon, has bounced back from a life threatening illness 21 months after he first became unwell.
In March 2019, we reported that Upsilon was gravely ill with a mutant form of equine herpes that can affect horses neurologically. However, it has since been reported that the horse contracted a bacterial infection, which had settled in his nervous system and caused neurological damage.
The grey stallion was incredibly successful at international level eventing, winning nine of 18 starts. He is a two-time Barbury Castle winner, and has also won notable events such as Blenheim Palace Horse Trials and Millstreet International Horse Trials.
Earlier this week, Thomas Carlile shared some videos to his Facebook page showing Upsilon working under saddle, alongside the caption, “We can’t believe our eyes… 21 months later!”
