Influential show jumping sire Chacoon Blue has sadly been laid to rest at the age of 16.
Schockemöhle stallion station announced the sad news on Saturday, explaining that despite the best efforts of the vets and grooms, the beautiful grey stallion did not recover from a bout of laminitis following a successful colic operation and had to be euthanised.
“With Chacoon Blue, we have lost a truly outstanding sire whose character, will to win and jumping ability were something very special, which he also passed on to his offspring in a remarkable way. Despite a temporary improvement, we unfortunately had to make this difficult decision in the best interests of the horse,” said Paul Schockemöhhle, of whom Chacoon Blue was his declared favourite – just as his sire Chacco-Blue had been before him.
A shining legacy
Chacoon Blue, born at Lewitz Stud, attracted attention early on. At his 2016 stallion performance test in Schlieckau, he received a dream score of 10 for his free jumping and jumping ability. This was followed by victory in the Deister Championships, a place in the final of the Bundeschampionat for six-year-olds, silver in the Warendorf Youngster Championships for seven-year-olds, and successes in the youngster tours in Munich (Germany), Neumünster (Germany), Paderborn (Germany) and Opglabbeek (The Netherlands). Under Philip Rüping, Chacoon Blue, from whose dameline also the Olympic champion Askan under Gerd Wiltfang comes, achieved top placings in the world ranking show jumping competitions in Frankfurt (Germany), Kronenberg (The Netherlands), Lanaken (Belgium) and Oldenburg (Germany).
Chacoon Blue, following in the footsteps of his illustrious sire Chacco-Blue, sired an entire armada of outstanding show jumping offspring who are now conquering courses around the globe. With the two Bundeschampions Chacoona Cat (Sophie Hinners, Germany) and Chaqueen (David Will, Germany), he also made breeding history last year.
Almost 60 of his sons have been licensed, including Challasco Blue PS, also stationed in Mühlen, who is a record stallion performance test winner, young horse show jumping series winner (with scores up to 9.5), Oldenburg State Champion and eighth in the Bundeschampionat, as well as the Bundeschampionat finalist and successful in the international Youngster Tour, Chacord GB and Chaloubino PS OLD. The latter made a name for himself as two-time Vice Bundeschampion, Oldenburg State Champion, seventh in the World Championships for young show jumpers and, most recently, narrowly beaten runner-up in the prestigious Sires of the World show jumping competition in Lanaken, Belgium.
