Valegro’s dam, Maifleur, has passed away
By Equestrian Life
Maifleur, the dam of legendary dressage horse Valegro, has passed away at age 26. The mare, by Gershwin out of Weidyfleur (Heidelberg), was bred owned by Joop and Maartje Hanse. The couple also bred Valegro.
Maifleur produced six foals — Valegro was the second. After her third foal, she had a ten year break from breeding, before giving birth to a filly by Negro in 2014 and a colt by Negro in 2016 (both full siblings to Valegro).

It has been reported that Maifleur was in good health throughout her life and regularly hacked out with Joop, until a recent decline in health.
Our thoughts are with Joop and Maartje Hanse — what an amazing mare they bred, and what a legacy she has left in the dressage world.
