Victorian Youth Riders shine at Boneo

The 2024 Victorian Youth Dressage Championships, sponsored by Hygain, took place at Boneo Park on the Mornington Peninsula from the 11th – 14th of January.

Since 2002, the Victorian Youth Dressage Championships has supported young riders from 8 to 25 years of age with the opportunity to compete from Preliminary to Grand Prix level. For the first time, the 2024 event also introduced the FEI Combined Para Championships.

Back to defend her title in the U25GP Tour in 2024, Jessica Dertell produced another set of superb performances to win the Championship on Syriana. Posting 70.342% in the U25 Grand Prix, 72.255% in the Intermediate II and 72.225% in the GP Freestyle, the pair start the year very much as they left off, in top form.

Jessica shares of her performance: “I’m thrilled with Sabble Farms’ Syriana scoring over 70% in all three Big Tour Tests. We had a few mistakes, so (there are) things to work on before Willinga Park Dressage by the Sea next month, where I’ll be looking to improve my scores further.”

The medium tour was won by Amy Bachmann and Genuine River, who produced 66.765% in the Intermediate A, 64.009% in the Intermediate B and 68.050% in the Inter A/B Freestyle.

Lucy Cochrane and Keystone Fantasy led the Small Tour Championships, posting 70.049% in the Prix St Georges, 69.706% in the Intermediate I and 68.267% in the Inter I Freestyle.

The tightly contested FEI Young Rider Championships was won by Beth Rowley and Remi First Class, who received 68.431% in the YR Team Test, 67.696% in the FEI Individual Test and 69.342% in the Freestyle.

In one of the larger classes, the FEI Junior Championships was convincingly won by Maddison Vallender and Rubinell, who received 70.505% in the Junior Team test, 71.618% in the Junior Individual test and 71.65% in the Junior freestyle.

The FEI Combined Para Championships was won, for the first time, by Maddison Cooke and Byalee Magic II. The combination posted 68.103% in the Grade II Test A, 70.389% in the Grade II Test B and 69.589% in the Freestyle.

Zali Mills & Kizashi secured the closely contested FEI Pony Championships, with a 59.190% in the Team test, 66.802% in the Individual test and convincing 71.750% in the Freestyle.

Experienced FEI Children Championship rider Morgan Cockerell secured the Championships on Ibn ky Gold Rush, winning the Teams test on 75.200%, Individual Test on 66.422% and FEI Childrens Preliminary B test on 71.191%.
