William Matthew wins Inter II, gains ‘Goldene Reitabzeichen’

Australian dressage rider William Matthew has enjoyed a successful weekend out competing in Germany, winning the Inter II test at the Wuppertaler Dressurtage, held at Bergische Reitsportakademie in Wuppertal, Germany.

“What an amazing day! First, nine-year-old Freischutz won his first Inter II with 72+%… I then received my Goldene Reitabzeichen!” said William, explaining that the Goldene Reitabzeichen (Golden Rider Badge) is a prestigious German award for those who have won at Small Tour level or higher ten times.

“I already had the ten wins and the ceremony was planned for this competition. I had decided as I’m there anyway, I would ride the Inter II with Freischutz and we won, so it was a extra bit of icing on the cake. It was a really special day.

“Thank you again to Michaela Aghasadeh for organising such a great show and ceremony, again a massive thank you to Isabell (Werth) and Frau (Madeleine) Winter-Schultze for the amazing opportunities you have given me, thank you to all my clients for your trust with your wonderful horses, and a huge thank you to all my friends and family that also made the day so special.”
